Splints

Posterior Splint
  1. Wrap leg from toes up to the calf (3 fingers width below knee)
  2. Use one whole 4" or 6" Sof Rol on the foot (heel should be heavily padded)
  3. Use one whole 4" or 6" Sof Rol up the leg
  4. Get a posterior splint, remove inside from cover and get it wet
    1. roll up splint
    2. cold to lukewarm water
  5. Wring it out really well and replace it in cover (make sure edges are captured)
  6. Fold the top of the splint behind the calf and the bottom of the splint by the toes over
  7. Wrap it with two 4" and one 6" ACE
  8. HOLD SPLINT AWAY FROM THE BACK OF THE HEEL TO PREVENT ANY FRICTION WOUNDS

Bulky Jones Splint
  1. Wrap the leg from the toes up to the calf (3 fingers width below knee)
  2. Use one whole 4" or 6" Sof Rol on the foot (heel should be heavily padded) (overlap 3-4 times)
  3. Use one whole 4" or 6" Sof Rol up the leg
    1. 50/50 w/ figure 8 around ankle x3
    2. 3 finger breadth below knee, wrap 3-4 times
  4. Take Red Cross (bulky cotton padding) and tear it down the middle wrap the foot and leg starting from the toes up
  5. Wrap up with Sof Rol (or Kerlix if unavailable) from toes up
  6. Get a posterior splint, remove inside from cover and get it wet
    1. roll up splint
    2. cold to lukewarm water
  7. Wring it out really well and replace it in cover (make sure edges are captured)
  8. Fold the top of the splint behind the calf and the bottom of the splint by the toes over
  9. Wrap it with 4" and one 6" ace
  10. HOLD SPLINT AWAY FROM THE BACK OF HEEL TO PREVENT ANY FRICTION WOUNDS
  11. Once this is hard, you wrap the ACE

Sloppy Taco Splint
  1. Wrap the leg from the toes up to the calf (3 fingers width below knee)
  2. Use one whole 4" or 6" Sof Rol on the foot (heel should be heavily padded)
  3. Use one whole 4" or 6" Sof Rol up the leg
  4. Take Red Cross (bulky cotton padding) and tear it Horizontally
  5. Wrap the foot and leg like a taco shell
  6. Wrap with Kerlix or ACE from toes up
  7. Get a posterior splint, remove inside from cover and get it wet
    1. roll up splint
    2. cold to lukewarm water
  8. Wring it out really well and replace it in cover (make sure edges are captured)
  9. Fold the top of the splint behind the calf and the bottom of the splint by the toes over
  10. Wrap it with two 4" and one 6" ACE
  11. HOLD SPLINT AWAY FROM THE BACK OF HEEL TO PREVENT ANY FRICTION WOUNDS
  12. Once this is hard, you wrap the ACE

Sugar Tong Splint
  1. Wrap the leg from the toes up to the calf (3 fingers wedith below knee) with Sof Rol
  2. Measure the plaster from the lateral side of the calf around the foot and up to the medial side of the calf
  3. Take this length and fold plaster until you have 10-12 layers of plaster
  4. Wet the plaster with lukewarm water (IF YOU USE HOT WATER, IT WILL BURN THE PATIENT)
  5. Wrap the wet plaster around boot, bringing equal sides of it up each side of th elgs (like a stirrup) then fold plaster down
  6. Wrap it with Sof Rol
  7. Get a posterior splint, remove inside from cover and get it wet
    1. roll up splint
    2. cold to lukewarm water
  8. Wring it out really well and replace it in cover (make sure edges are captured)
  9. Fold the top of the splint behind the calf and the bottom of the splint by the toes over
  10. Wrap it with two 4"and one 6" ACE
